All three generations at Pink’s. The son wore a heavy gold chain that seemed to be constructed entirely of watch bands. Maybe he got some bored jeweler to make the world’s longest watch band, or maybe that’s the style these days.

The way that teenagers in Masachusetts search for cars is a twice-monthly publication called The Want Ad. In this post dotcom era, ebay has mostly replaced that kind of marketplace, but you’ll still see the Want Ad kicking around the magazine rack at your local New England convenience store. And whenever there was a super-cool plymouth from the seventies, there was usually the designation “CA car” in the list of features. Here’s one in the flesh. As a teen, I personally circled too many dodge darts, mustangs, chevelles, and pontiac GTOs to count. They were a part of being sixteen in a way.

‘Don’t evah marry girl from new york,’ he said. ‘She will curse at you in front of your kids!’

He was from Nigeria, in his sixth year owning a car service and 30th in the states. ‘If you live in United State for thirty years and you still alive, you must be pretty good man.’ His laugh was hearty, though he later explained how many times he had been held at gunpoint. Eight. We pulled into the airport. He quipped that, ‘if they build a road to Nigeria, I don’t care if it take me two months, I’d rather drive than fly.’ And with that I humped into JFK on my way to la-la land.

As an up-and-comer, you dream of the day when you’ll have a Super Techno Crane on set. It’s use was pioneered by David Fincher in Panic Room. And though it also wins the Oscar™ for corniest name in all of filmmaking, the name alone commands respect.

We had a pretty big shoot the other day.
Yeah?
Yeah. Super Techno Crane.

Only “helicopter” will get you more respect on the streets. It was difficult to fit the whole thing in one photograph.

Dialogue guys usually don’t get as caught up in the tools as us visualists. But then again, dialogue guys get to take nice black and whites in front of their typewriters.

These flicks were taken on the steps of the state supreme court where nbc’s Conviction is often filming.

Here’s the other side of the aformentioned 315 Park Row. A better view of the ugly Verizon building can be seen from one of the best cig-break fire escapes downtown. The two buildings hold forth like the Mantle and Maris of blight — sinking deeper into history with each overgrown development, and yet with us all the same.
