apple takedown

Cnet story about someone trying to steal one of the new MacBooks from the SF apple store. Even a couple of windoze buddies of mine are thinking of snapping up one of these puppies. Let’s hope they plan on paying first.

But the deeper question is, as always, could you ever imagine such a mass of people at a gateway store for the announcement of a new product? Oh, that’s right, no more gateway stores. One thing I’ve always hated about apple stores, though, is that half the people in there walk around being amazed by how cool everything apple is. When it really isn’t. It’s a computer, folks. A better one, in my opinion. Better looking. Easier to use. But a computer. A box. I’m about as evangelical about the use of apple computers as anyone, but when I show up in the store, I just want to buy and be out. Even the sales people seem to have drunk the cool-aid. That extra-happy “how can I help you find the perfect apple product” routine they run annoys the shit out of me. Grrrr. I wish one of the sales people wearing one of those custom mock-turtlenecks was in on the tackle.
